OUR GREAT FRIEND DAVID ANDREW HAS PRODUCED THIS TEMPLATE FOR YOU TO USE - FEEL FREE TO CUSTOMISE IT AND USE IT IN ANY WAY THAT WORKS FOR YOU - THEN PRINT IT OFF AND PUT IT IN THEIR LETTERBOX (You may want to laminate it and wipe it with antiseptic - telling them you have done so)

Dear XXXX,

Many people are scared right now – and stories in the media don’t help – but there is a way to live without fear. We are both in the ‘at risk’ category, and we’re no braver than anyone else but courage doesn’t mean being unafraid, it means not allowing fear to take control and doing the right thing – and the right thing is putting our lives and our loved ones into Stronger Hands than our own. Over many years of marriage and parenthood, we have learned that fear is no friend to our loved ones. We can’t protect our families with fear, but only by looking beyond ourselves to God. We Christians are not exempt from bad news or hard times, but we’ve discovered that, if we look to God, EITHER He protects us from trouble, OR He protects us in it. Either way, we never face trouble alone.

He has no favourites. We don’t go to church because we’re better than other people, but because we need God to make us better. His intention – spelled out in the Bible – is to re-make believers in the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. (Obviously that’s not something we could achieve on our own!) Left to ourselves, we make loads of bad decisions, worry about everything, struggle just to survive and live without hope. Christian hope is not wishful thinking, it’s not about crossing your fingers – it’s unshakeable confidence that God will not disappoint us and that He has secured our future, for this life and for eternity.

We will not pester you with our faith – but we can’t see you under such strain as you are and keep quiet about God’s love and concern for you.We are all undeserving sinners, but the Bible shows clearly that God is not against us for our sin, but for us against our sin. He’s on our side and knows we can’t make it alone – we were never intended to!

If we don’t hear from you, we will respect your privacy, but if you want to know more, you can reach us by email XXXXXXX or WhatsApp: mobile XXXXXXX. If you have a computer / laptop / tablet / phone with a camera, we can ‘meet’ online. Our church meetings use Zoom so that we can ‘meet without meeting’. You would be welcome to join us. Come and join the imperfect people that God (and only God) will one day make perfect! His love is perfect, and the Bible says: “Perfect love drives out fear”. If you want to live and love your kids without fear, you need to know your Heavenly Father.

God sent His Son to be the Saviour of all who believe. If we assume that God is more intelligent than we are (!!) why would He send His Son to save us if we don’t need saving? And if the  only way He could save us was to die in our place and rise from the dead what hope do we have if we say ‘no’ to such an amazing gift from God? It’s God’s way or no way. God is all good. Salvation means He rescues us to spend eternity with Him. The opposite of salvation means eternity without Him – a tormented life without God and without any goodness… with no way back. PLEASE, WE BEG YOU ON GOD’S BEHALF, ASK JESUS TO BE YOUR SAVIOUR AND FOLLOW HIM AS LORD. We don’t manage our own lives – He does! And Jesus has the safest pair of hands in the universe. He loves our kids more than we do.

Our prayer for you:

Father, it is truly amazing that you love folks like us who can live our lives without giving you a thought. We only love you because you loved us first. Thank you that Jesus died forgiving His enemies – and rose from the dead with power to turn His enemies into His friends. Hear us for XXXXXXXXXXXX. We know we cannot exaggerate your love for them – rescue them from the lies of this world that keep them from seeing you and knowing your goodness. Protect them from the terrors of these days and give them the extraordinary inner peace that comes from trusting you. In Jesus’ Strong Name – Amen

Your friends,

Has the Church been locked down and out?

History will bear witness, in the weeks and months following the Coronavirus pandemic, of those who stepped up to the plate … and those who may have seemed to be silent in the national narrative that unfolded as we were herded into our homes during lockdown, while the cruel virus raged relentlessly. Many risked their lives in acts of self-sacrifice, some even gave of their lives. I am deeply humbled by these acts, as we should all be, especially as we have considered our current generation ‘the snowflake generation’, in marked contrast to those who fought for their country in the two World wars. Over a half a million volunteered to help the NHS, people of all religious and cultural background and ages. The first two doctors to die of the virus were of Sudanese origin, who had dedicated their skills to our country for decades. Doctors and nurses, knowing of their vulnerability to the invisible menace, came out of retirement to help the national effort. Once such doctor was Dr Alfa Saadu, originally from Nigeria, who returned to the NHS to help out, after 40 years of service, only to be one of the first to die. One of so many tragic but heroic stories that could be told.

And what of us Christians? Of course, there are many Christians in the NHS and caring professions, who are working on the front line. One of them, a close friend working as a doctor at a hospital in Manchester had this to say: “But frightened as I approach the edge of this waterfall in my small inflatable dingy, and look down and see that we only have 130 ventilators at my major teaching hospital and a limited supply of oxygen.  To know there will be many lives lost that could have been saved is my nightmare, likely shared by doctors up and down the country.  We see death and dying all the time, but never where it could have been avoided had we had enough resources.  The horror of what is creeping upon us speaks to me of the Michelangelo fresco in the Sistine chapel; lives falling whilst we reach out helpless.”

It's the rest of the story that leaves me in confusion and inner conflict. In the two weeks since lockdown all I have seen is a Church in retreat, a Church unable yet to adapt to a changing paradigm of the “virtualisation of the koinonia” and concentrating in adapting the technology to fit the existing model, in order to continue to “feed the flock”, let alone thinking of the Great Commission. Panic reigns, and unfamiliarity. The test will be when the initial shock leads to a realisation that new thinking may be necessary in order to move forwards. There could very well be an amazing opportunity being offered here, but time will tell …

Hebraic Church? Now there’s a phrase designed to upset or confuse just about everyone. Yet being Hebraic is not what many in the Church imagines it to be. In fact it could be nothing less than the key for true restoration and revival.

It is the author’s opinion that the failure of recent Church initiatives to get ‘back to basics’ is because doing things differently can’t be sustained unless there is a corresponding move to think differently. There’s no way we can take a Hebraic model (the early Church) and get it to work in a 21st century culture where the Greek model still reigns supreme.

With his customary humour, pacey style and shrewd insights, Steve Maltz examines seven areas where the Church has gone askew and suggests practical solutions to re-align the Church with the ‘original model’.

This book is available for £10 from here.

When a prolific author such as Steve Maltz claims that his latest book is his ‘most important ever’, it is worth considering why. Certainly it is a timely book and its message vital ... How important the book will be only time will tell, but it deserves to be widely read and discussed. (Paul Luckraft, Prophecy Today)

Steve Maltz has performed a valuable service to the collective Church in the UK ... highly recommended(Peter Sammons, publisher)

A senior trade union official has asked for “absolute assurance” that softening Sunday trading regulations in Belfast due to COVID-19 is not “a backdoor attempt” to extend opening hours in the long term. Belfast City Council said its decision would remain in place “until further notice”. Councillors had previously rejected proposals to extend Sunday trading hours four times since 2017 – most recently just one month ago. A council spokesperson said it would not “carry out enforcement action” against shops greater that 280m2 if they extended their Sunday opening hours “to facilitate shopping for healthcare staff and vulnerable people”.The shopworkers union Usdaw accepted the move, which came into effect last Sunday, but warned against using the pandemic as an excuse for long-term changes.
