MATTHEW 11: 25-30

He had sent forth the Seventy on vital work. He had already prayed for the Father to send forth labourers entrusted to the faith and service of the Church and that prayer still holds now! And the true wisdom, which qualified for the Kingdom, was to take up his yoke, which would be found an easy burden, not like that unbearable yoke of Rabbinic conditions and the true understanding to be sought, was by learning of him.

One of the most common expressions of the time was that of ‘the yoke’ to indicate submission to an occupation or obligation. And, indeed, this voluntary making of the yoke as heavy as possible, the taking on themselves as many obligations as possible, was the ideal of Rabbinic piety.
