Who is Steve Maltz? Well, let me tell you…
A Story of Faith and Restoration
My Background
I’m Steve Maltz, a British author passionate about making complex biblical topics — such as the Jewish roots of Christianity, Israel, and the Hebraic mindset — both accessible and engaging. My writing incorporates humour to reach a broad audience.
Coming from a non-practicing Jewish background, I now believe in Jesus. Over the years, I’ve taken on many roles, including web consultant, tour guide, systems analyst, and author. I co-founded Saltshakers, a Christian ministry, and initiated the Foundations conferences to explore Christianity’s Hebraic roots.
Saltshakers: A Ministry with a Mission
Saltshakers began in the mid-1990s as one of the first Christian ministries on the internet, dedicated to teaching the Jewish roots of Christianity. Our mission has always been to embrace the biblical concept of the "One New Man" (Ephesians 2), uniting Jews and Gentiles in faith.
My journey led me to not only explore Christianity’s historical ties to Judaism but also to understand the Hebraic mindset — a perspective that aligns with how Jesus and His disciples saw the world. It’s not about adopting Jewish traditions but reclaiming a biblical way of thinking, which has often been overshadowed by Greek influences in the Church.
My Purpose
My mission is clear: to glorify God by helping the Church rediscover its Hebraic heritage. This isn’t about enforcing Jewish customs but restoring the early Church’s rich faith.
Many Christians are skeptical, fearing legalism or seeing no reason to reassess Church history. Meanwhile, some in the Hebrew Roots movement go too far, focusing on Jewish traditions over the message of Jesus. I advocate a balanced approach—what I call the Hebraic Church—returning to biblical foundations without rejecting the Gentile contributions to Christianity.
I believe in sensitivity. Some believers prefer “Yeshua” over “Jesus,” while others celebrate Easter and Christmas despite their origins. My focus isn’t on condemning practices but on enriching faith with deeper understanding.
What is the Hebraic Church?
In 2008, I began exploring how Greek philosophy shaped Christian thought. Over time, I realized that rigid doctrines had replaced the early Church’s dynamic, relational faith.
Is It a Cult?
Not at all! Hebraic faith is about freedom, not legalism. Our Foundations conferences foster this freedom through worship, prayer, Scripture discussions, and natural expressions of faith.
Does It Mean Becoming Jewish?
No. Some focus on external Jewish customs—like prayer shawls and kosher laws—but my emphasis is on our mindset. Ephesians 2:11-18 speaks of the “One New Man,” where Jews and Gentiles unite in Christ.
The Israel Connection
Many Christians overlook Israel’s biblical significance, yet God’s covenant remains central (Genesis 12:3). Hebraic-minded believers should educate, not divide.
Living It Out
Faith should be dynamic, not institutionalized. Our Foundations conferences blend Messianic worship with traditional Christian music, teachings on Israel, and discipleship—all in a welcoming space.
My book Livin’ the Life expands on these ideas, helping believers restore depth, joy, and authenticity to their faith. My message is about restoration, freedom, and joy—bringing believers back to the heart of God.
