One the one hand, there’s the way we do things; we have our ways of producing results and our own times for carrying out these ways. The religious authorities created a mythology of angels stirring up waters at certain times and also declared when actual healings can be carried out … any day as long as it not a Sabbath. Then there is God’s way … Jesus turning up on a Sabbath at a time of his choosing and healing the invalid!
We Christians, despite the general thrust of Scripture to the contrary, prefer to be in charge. If we are honest in these occasions, we create an environment of our choosing … and then expect God to turn up to do His stuff! Isn’t that what we do when we advertise “healing” or “miracle” services? What would happen if God was otherwise occupied, eh? Yes, this is cynicism on my part, but wouldn’t it be better to leave everything to God? It’s good to have expectation, but not ‘certainty’, only God knows the day and the hour …
