LUKE 7:11-17
Everything Jesus did in the Gospels was for a purpose, a moral purpose. Every piece of the jigsaw that he was building had a part to play, whether a piece of teaching, a miracle, even a gesture or throwaway comment. In this instance he raises up the Widow’s son from death. And we soon see why; they were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
And that’s how it still is. For a Christian, God will be working in your life even through the small insignificant things, even through events that make no sense at the time. It’s only when we view in retrospect that we see the jigsaw being built up and a pattern emerges. It’s all so messy and counter-intuitive and that’s what gives it that smack of authority and reality!
