LUKE 12:13-21,13:6-9, 14:1-24

In the parable of the rich fool the man in question uttered this phrase, that has become the mantra to many in our current generation; Take life easy – eat, drink and be merry. God’s response was to remind him what a fool he was, this very night your life will be demanded of you.

Young people in particular today live life in the fast lane believing themselves to be indestructible. We hear more on more of tragic stories of teenagers dying in horrific car accidents of their own making simply because they were driving under the influence of drink and drugs, Their young lives were demanded of them through these actions, they foolishly shortened their own lives and deprived themselves of a purposeful existence. This is so sad. But we can all fall into this trap, believing that what is now … will always be, that there are no endings. Well none of us know our end-point and it would be far better to live our lives as if every day was our last day, rather than no day being our last day and just living for the moment. Perhaps it’s time for a rethink?
