MATTHEW 8:2-4, MARK 1:40-45, LUKE 5:12-16
Yes, he had received a remarkable miracle, perhaps the first leper to be healed in such a way, but … all he was asked in return was to tell no-one except the priests. So, what did he do? He went and told everyone! Yes, he was unbelievably excited and perhaps he felt he was doing Jesus a favour by advertising him to the many, but … this was in direct opposition to what he was asked to do! This resulted in Jesus having to tread very carefully and resulting in a great loss in freedom for him.
Sometimes we can also act with unhelpful zeal. We feel we are doing the right thing, we are acting from emotional impulses rather than what the still small voice may be telling us to do … or not to do. And it can lead us away from God’s purposes in our life. And who would want that? The moral of the tale is … think before you act. Are you acting solely on your emotions? Take a moment and ask God what He requires us to do … always.
