MATTHEW 5-7

Here the Kingdom of Heaven is introduced in the beatitudes. We are provided with a series of blessings associated with mourning, meekness, seeking after righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peace-making and persecution. What this list is not is a framework to help you to attain these blessings through your actions. It’s a lot simpler than that. It is simply a description of what life is like in the Kingdom of Heaven, in that these goals are realities provided to you without any striving on your part. This is what grace is all about.

We need to show the world that we are living in these realities, of the Kingdom of Heaven. We are still going to mourn and be persecuted, we are not insulated from such things. Instead, we accept the blessings as a given, rather than waiting to get blessed as a result of our striving. Just being in the Kingdom of Heaven is a blessing and we need to bask in this glorious truth.
