JOHN 7:1-16, LUKE 9:51-56, 57-62, MATTHEW 8:19-22
The disciples wanted Jesus to accompany them to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles. He refused because his time had not yet fully come. He was his own man. He controlled the narrative, not his disciples. Instead, he went there privately, to suss things out, before revealing himself.
Sometimes we act in secret too, sometimes we don’t reveal ourselves to others either. It can be out of fear of rejection … or worse. Or it can be because you don’t feel it is your time yet to declare yourself. The secret is in determining which of the two it is. Do we act in fear or in response to the inner call? If it is fear, then perhaps it is time to examine yourself?
